The Monument of Courage will honor West Texas Medal of Honor recipients, Gold Star Families and Purple Heart recipients.

It's planned to go up by the area's War Memorial near 82nd Street and Quaker Ave. The project's been ongoing for three years and is intended to open next Spring.

"If you go to the Vietnam War Memorial, there are 58,000 names on that wall, and we do it because those guys can't. I'm pretty sure that if we're not willing to do it, one of those guys on that wall will gladly take our place," Benny Guerrero, Veterans of Foreign Wars Command, said.

Fund raising is still underway to build the monument. The goal's $200,000.
