The Lubbock Salvation Army is planning to send 100 local children ages 7 through 11 to Summer Camp.

One group of 50 will leave June 24 through June 29. The Second group will leave July 8 through July 13. There are still spots available for the second group.

The Salvation Army needs help in raising funds to send these children. Each child cost about $250, but includes charter buses, t-shirts, meals, hygiene kits and sleeping bags. Total cost comes out to about $40,000.

These kids generally come from low-income families and will be spending a week-long break at a summer camp south of Dallas.

Last year, Mayor Dan Pope helped send off more than 100 kids.
