During the quarterfinals round of the Big 12 basketball tournament, Texas Tech entered as the number two seed and took on the 10th seed, West Virginia.

The Mountaineers started the game strong and the Red Raiders found themselves down by 17 points at one point in the first half. Tech struggled on the boards, as WVU out-rebounded the Red Raiders 22-5 at one point, as West Virginia entered the break with a nine point lead.

In the second half, the Red Raiders started to look more like themselves and after going on a 14-2 run they brought the game within four points. The seventh ranked team in the nation took the lead in the game with two minutes left. The game looked promising after Jarrett Culver blocked a three and took it down the court to finish with a layup, however WVU's offense didn't stop as the clock winded down. Culver finished with 24 points and passed the 1,000 points mark at Texas Tech.

The Mountaineers outlasted the Red Raiders and eliminated the two seed with a 79-74 win. WVU's win was the first time a ten seed beat a top two seed in the Big 12 tournament.
