HOBBS, New Mexico -

(Press Release)

The City of Hobbs Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is proud to announce that it will be hosting the first ever Tree Lighting Ceremony in Hobbs on December 1st, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Shipp Street Plaza. This is an opportunity to bring unity and togetherness to our community through numerous activities and shopping options focused around the holiday season.

At 5 o’clock, plenty of activities will kick off, including shopping with downtown merchants, mobile retail vendors, food trucks selling an array of festive holiday treats, entertainment from dancers and carolers, free photos with Santa, and ornament decorating for children. If that doesn’t sound exciting enough, free hot cocoa and cookies will be given to the first 100 attendees! At 6 o’clock, the tree will be topped with its star and the Mayor will flip the switch for the lights!

During this event, the Hobbs Fire Department Toy Drive coordinator, Captain Michael Nelson, will have the Parade Fire Truck present as a donation location to receive toys, clothes, and monetary donations that will be cherished by children of families in need.

Hobbs Communications Director and Head of CVB Meghan Mooney stated, “The Hobbs’ Tree Lighting Ceremony is the perfect event to coordinate as our first official event for the CVB. With over 800 users choosing ‘Interested’ or ‘Going’ on the Facebook event page, at this point the Planning Committee is anticipating over 1,000 attendees at this event. Those numbers are amazing for a community event that was only released about a week ago. We predict a wonderful, joyful event for all community members to be a part of.”

You may follow the event on the City of Hobbs City Government’s Facebook page where participating vendors, performers, and information updates are being posted. If you would like to sign up as a vendor, please contact Tanya Sanchez with the City of Hobbs Convention Visitors Bureau at (575)391 – 4178 or email her at tsanchez@hobbsnm.org.

We hope to see you at Shipp Street Plaza December 1st enjoying plenty of your holiday shopping and eating while gathering with others to delight in a beautiful evening for our community!
