By Lindsay MacDonald,

When it rains it pours! HBO's first Game of Thrones spin-off not only cast its leading lady recently, they've also apparently settled on a title!

After news broke that Naomi Watts had been cast as the lead in the Game of Thrones prequel series, George R.R. Martin tweeted the announcement, along with the name of the new series: The Long Night.

"Casting is now underway for THE LONG NIGHT, the first of the GAME OF THRONES successor series to ordered to film. HBO has just announced the first cast member: NAOMI WATTS is coming on board as one of our stars," Martin wrote.

If that name sounds familiar, it's because this isn't the first time we've gotten a reference to The Long Night. Melisandre (Carice van Houten) wouldn't shut about it when it came to preaching the word of the Lord of Light, and Old Nan (Margaret John) referenced it when telling Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) stories back in Season 1. The Long Night refers to a infamous period during the Age of Heroes when darkness fell across the world during a winter that lasted for a generation. Naturally, this is a great setting for the birth of the White Walkers.

Naomi Watts is currently the only actor attached to the project, and all we know about her character so far is that she is a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.

The Long Night has no expected premiere date yet.
