LUBBOCK, Texas -

Thomas Ponce, 27, who was wanted for aggravated sexual assault, is now in custody.

Ponce is jailed with a combined bond set at more than half a million dollars.

Early Tuesday morning, investigators said Ponce kicked in the door of a young woman's home out in the county, sexually assaulted her, then abducted her and took her to another location.

The victim was able to escape and called 9-1-1 while Ponce got away.

Hours later Ponce reportedly forced another woman into her apartment at the Village at Overton complex.

Police said he held her against her will for more than 12 hours and raped her. She was also able to escape and notify 9-1-1.

LPD received a tip that Ponce had been spotted around 1st Street and University. Officers nearby began to search the area and located Ponce. Ponce ran from officers and after a brief foot chase, Ponce was taken into custody near the 2600 block of 1st Street.

LPD thanks the media and community members for sharing his photo and for calling in tips and information about his whereabouts.
